The long line of blue eucalyptus trees that frame the road gives this estate its name. Blue decorative pillars are spaced along the drive, and you soon begin to notice that the colour blue has a powerful presence everywhere, featuring in the art, décor and packaging.
The road takes you through the vineyards and a pretty view of the homestead to the tasting room, which is very modern with a gleaming silver table that looks as if it has been wrapped in tin foil. There are super stylish chairs which turn out to be surprisingly comfortable. You can also taste under umbrellas with a view toward the vineyards and the Simonsberg. There is a lovely lawn with a great big old oak tree, enclosed by a low white wall, and with a jungle gym to keep the kids occupied. Allée Bleue is a popular picnic venue and in summer there is live music on Sundays.
At the entrance are two smaller buildings, one housing the bistro and the other a little shop selling their wines, including the value Blue Owl range, olive oils, and some produce. The bistro serves platters and light lunches- pizza, burgers and salads. Someone has been given too free a hand with the blue paint effects on the wall of the little bistro, but a lovely fire and a warm welcome made up for that.
