Mulderbosch’s lawns have been landscaped and there are swings and climbing frames for the kids, a lovely view of vineyards and hills, and the delicious smell of pizzas drifts from the big outdoor pizza oven. The outdoor decks are strewn with comfy cushions, there are bean bags on the lawn, and boule courts where we can pretend to be a little French.
Behind the long tasting counter a cheerful, bright red wall flags up an interesting range of wines: some great chenin, an award winning chardonnay, the delicious, best-selling dry rose and their red blend, Faithful Hound. There are some stunning syrahs from sister winery Fable Mountain Vineyards in Tulbagh as well as the Mulderbosch winemaker’s own contemporary wine range, Yardstick.
The pizzas are a little different from your average Marguerita, with a choice of toppings such as portabellini mushrooms and truffle oil, biltong, sweet peppadew and avocado, and for winter, slow braised oxtail, butternut and mushroom. I love that the bases are thin and crispy. If pizzas aren’t your thing, there are cheese and charcuterie boards served with fresh bread and olives.
The furniture is designer modern, beige wood and cream leather, all very comfortable, and stylish. All in all, it’s a great place to hang out with friends and have fun.
