Springfield Estate

Bring a picnic,

pair it with the perfect wine, relax

There isn’t another wine estate quite like Springfield. To my mind, with its conical red roofs, ivy clad walls, picturesque setting and mountain backdrop, it feels more French than South African.
The tasting room is clad in cool cream stone and marble and has a giant fireplace to banish winter's chills. There is serious attention to the wines, poured by very friendly, chatty staff. Do ask them to tell you about the Anatolian sheepdog who guards the Springfield herd of springbok.
This is a family owned farm, and their focus is on producing wines that are site specific and vinified as naturally as possible to reflect their terroir. It is interesting to compare and contrast their splendid sauvignon blancs, each grown on separate vineyard sites with different soils.
Unusually, Springfield encourages you to bring your own picnic and settle on the lawns next the farm dam to enjoy a perfect slice of time out. They don’t supply food, just the venue and the wine (the tasting room is right there if you need a refill). You can also swim in the dam, and take the rowing boat out onto the water. We suggest that you enjoy their delicious Whole Berry Cabernet after your expedition…
