Warwick is a fabulous place to picnic in style. Grab some big fat cushions, a blanket, an umbrella and one of their gourmet picnic boxes, and settle down on the vast lawns that surround the lake. Children can run and play and clamber on the jungle gym to their heart’s content while parents get into some serous relaxing, all the while enjoying the estate’s excellent wines.
Warwick offers attractive shaded outdoor dining “pods”, for groups of up to 12, where you can sit around a table and a picnic butler will serve you. If these spaces are booked out, the pretty French style courtyard cafe offers a simple but delicious range of tapas, ploughman’s platters and breads, and for the die-hard meat eaters, there is always steak and chips.
Wine tastings are informative and relaxed. In winter, there's a comfortable lounge area with a big fireplace and tapas to order. If you're with someone special, share your tasting from the famous Warwick Wedding Cup, made in honour of the love story of the silversmith and the princess. It's a lovely fable and the cups are for sale, if you'd like a romantic memento.
Take a Big 5 Grape safari in an open Landrover up into the vineyards with their spectacular views and see the 5 varieties grown on the farm. Right at the top, there's a function venue called, rather tongue in cheek, the Penthouse.
Warwick is a family owned and run winery and this comes across in the attention to detail and the warm welcome from the people who work there.
P.S. We hear that Warwick is building a fabulous deck with bar and massages on tap in time for the holidays. Looking forward to checking this one out.
