A quaint family farm
with wine, a water mill and walking trails
If you are driving to Caledon or Hermanus, it's definitely worth a quick detour into the little village of Bot River to visit the Beaumont Winery, which is based on a small working farm dating back to the 1700's. Beaumont has loads of charm, and the wines are very good too. The unpretentious tasting room is housed in the old cement-floored cellar, the tasting table is rustic and the atmosphere unhurried.
Stop for a game of boules after your tasting or follow the terraced lawns as they tumble down the hillside to the recently restored Old Mill with its beautiful wooden water wheel. On special occasions wheat is ground in the mill and is available for sale.
Beaumont is a family farm and the family members all play a creative role. Sebastian Beaumont tends the vines and makes the wine, Ariane Beaumont makes beautiful silver jewellery, while another family member, Nicci, owner of Zest Catering, produces delicious jams, vinegars and chutneys, all on sale in the tasting room.
Most of the farm is part of the Groenland Conservancy and is covered with pristine natural vegetation. The farm is a great place for outdoor lovers, hikers, bikers and bird watchers, and offers accommodation in two characterful cottages.
